Spider Vein Treatment - Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to treat varicose
veins and “spider veins.” During sclerotherapy, the physician
injects a solution directly into the affected vein, which then
fades from view over time. Sclerotherapy is a well-proven
procedure and has been used since the 1930s.
Dr. Ariss will use a topical anesthetic to relieve any
discomfort. The injection process, done in the office, is
typically complete in 30 minutes. After the treatment you will
be able to drive yourself home. You may resume your regular
activities and are encouraged to walk. Any discomfort can be
easily managed with over the counter pain medications, and is
alleviated by the use of compression hosiery. Some mild
bruising, itching, and swelling at the injection site is
normal, but otherwise side effects are uncommon and short in
duration.
In general, spider veins respond to treatment in 3 to 6 weeks,
and larger veins respond in 3 to 4 months. If the veins
respond to the treatment, usually they will not reappear.
